The new Superfood track is fucking brilliant. I’ll admit when I first saw the band at the start of the year I thought they were a bad Britpop B-side (I was wrong, ok) but this is a fantastically chaotic mess and I love it:

Jungle are a new act about to drop their debut AA side single via the brilliant Chess Club Records. Jungle is a crap name for a band but having listened to Platoon at least they sound like their name, or at least they sound like what an actual jungle would sound like if it decided to give up being a densely inhabited and diverse ecosystem and instead pickup up a synth and started making music. I’m talking shit, I just personified a jungle. Just listen to the goddamn song:

I’m now going to spend the rest of the day trying to work out what other bands make music that sound like their name… I can’t think of any.

Saturday 18th May sees three of the best UK blogs (and MBBTYB) team up for BLOG UP. It’s like some big sexy foursome without the sexiness or the sex bit, instead we’re just going to present a load of bands what we think are dead good innit.

This is rather lovely for a friday morning, especially for all you crazy kids with hangovers:

Big Cosmos are a five piece band that live in London. And this is taken from their debut EP which is coming out on Blessing Force records (who seem to have been very quiet of late???)

Best of all is that the EP is being released in a super limited box set; 50 homemade, laser-cut wooden boxes, which contain the EP on USB wristband, a silk-screen poster and lyrics booklet. I have no idea why anyone would want a USB wristband but i’m quite excited about the silk-screen poster!
They’re going to be playing their first gig on 12th June at Sebright Arms, see you there people…

Liberty Vessels, they’re in school but they want out…

Liberty Vessel’s have been on my radar for a while now, the impossibly young band from Liverpool have been playing to increasingly raucous crowds all over the North-West and have just dropped a brand new tune. A good indicator of things to come from them.

Of Rust & Bone – Hauntingly beautiful…

I know very little about Of Rust & Bone, I do know that I love this tune and I do know that there is a gig planned on the Thursday of Great Escape. I also know I will be there. I’ll be stood at the back looking moody. I say ‘looking’, I mean ‘being’.

Rhodes – not just a shitty holiday destination.

I have no idea if Rhodes is nice or not, to be fair I come from Blackpool and it’s always certainly nicer than that.

Rhodes however is also a new singer from Hitchin who’s getting a lot of these A&R types in a tizz. He makes beautifully stripped down music, gorgeous lead melodies backed up with dreamy backing vocals.

Rhodes’ first London show is 7th May at Notting Hill Arts Club. A great chance to play spot the industry wanker.
